About the Author
Lawrence Rabiner was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 28, 1943. He received the S.B., and S.M. degrees simultaneously in June 1964, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1967, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge Massachusetts.

From 1962 through 1964, Dr. Rabiner participated in the cooperative program in Electrical Engineering at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Whippany and Murray Hill, New Jersey. During this period Dr. Rabiner worked on designing digital circuitry, issues in military communications problems, and problems in binaural hearing. Dr. Rabiner joined AT&T Bell Labs in 1967 as a Member of the Technical Staff. He was promoted to Supervisor in 1972, Department Head in 1985, Director in 1990, and Functional Vice President in 1995. He joined the newly created AT&T Labs in 1996 as Director of the Speech and Image Processing Services Research Lab, and was promoted to Vice President of Research in 1998 where he managed a broad research program in communications, computing, and information sciences technologies. Dr. Rabiner retired from AT&T at the end of March 2002 and is now a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University, and the Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Information Processing (CAIP) at Rutgers.

Dr. Rabiner is co-author of the books â Theory and Application of Digital Signal Processingâ (Prentice- Hall, 1975), â Digital Processing of Speech Signalsâ (Prentice-Hall, 1978), â Multirate Digital Signal Processingâ (Prentice-Hall, 1983), and â Fundamentals of Speech Recognitionâ (Prentice-Hall, 1993).

Dr. Rabiner is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, the IEEE, Bell Laboratories, and AT&T. He is a former President of the IEEE Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Society, a former Vice-President of the Acoustical Society of America, a former editor of the ASSP Transactions, and a former member of the IEEE Proceedings Editorial Board.

Ronald W. Schafer is an electrical engineer notable for his contributions to digital signal processing.

After receiving his Ph.D. degree at MIT in 1968, he joined the Acoustics Research Department at Bell Laboratories, where he did research on digital signal processing and digital speech coding. He came to the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1974, where he stayed until joining Hewlett Packard in March 2005.

He has served as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing and as Vice-President and President of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

He has received the IEEE Region 3 Outstanding Engineer Award, the 1980 IEEE Emanuel R. Piore Award, the Distinguished Professor Award at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the 1992 IEEE Education Medal and the 2010 IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal.

-when to use precaution, for example during pregnancy

Dr Indu Arora teaches globally, and one of her biggest messages is, 'If you can breathe, you can practice yoga.' This excellent book is full of practical information for all people to use to access health and wellbeing.

best book out there on mudras....but

I give this book four stars. She is excellent in demonstrating the mudras & I have already begun to use some of them with positive results during meditation & yoga. However unless you already know sanskrit the accompanying mantras will b difficult if not impossible for you to translate & pronounce correctly. I have been practicing yoga for 10 years & have many friends that are instructors & even they are guessing. She should have a cd to go with or utube so you can hear the correct pronouciations. Give me a break did she write this for the beginner in mind? I think not & anyone that gave a five star review is either fluent in sanskrit or didn't really read the book and apply it.
Additionally she demonstrated several mudras but never discussed their benefits or use for you so why are they in this book? That's nice that they are used for Hindu rituals but what do I care if I can't use it in my everyday life for practical purposes? I really do not understand why they are in this book.
Still, the best book out there on mudras even if you need to do a little further research on translation etc.

Wilma Rudolph was born into a large family and struggled with health problems for the first several years of her life, including polio. Women's Sport Back in the Day

This is a great account of the career of Wilma Rudolph and how she overcame so many obstacles to become a world champion. Even more, it gives an interesting account of world-class sport for women when it was still amateur: few scholarships, little organization, infrequent competitions hardly noticed by the press. For example, the day after Wilma came home from winning a bronze medal in Melbourne (1956), she was starting for her high school basketball team as if nothing really big had happened. Imagine that today. Lots of pages, and a unusual look at women's sport fifty years ago.

Excellent blueprint for designing your custom quality program

Excellent book. A great resource for a food quality professional. Clear and consise on all points of a food quality program. A great reference for an experienced quality person but also a book that will benefit any recent graduate in the food industry. It is definetely a tool I will have on my shelf for the rest of my career.

The thing I really like about this book is the CD-rom that accompanies the book. All of the forms discussed in the book are there to be customized to an individual food plant. This book is allowing me to condense/refine my preexisting programs into a comprehensive, professional looking set of quality manuals. All of my forms and formats will be the same. I know it will save me time and earn me extra points on all 3rd party audits that come through my facility.

This book has been a great help in organizing all the complex programs, forms, and SOPs that are a requirement in a food plant nowadays. The specific advice on where to physically put everything was most useful; our plant already had most of the items but they are scattered here and there and not linked together.

The author explains in very clear and concise language the steps to develop each program and what the components are, right down to how to label the tabs in your binders.

Make sure you get the CD if you need it. The CD was missing with the first book that came, so I had to exchange it. The material is available online, but its nice to have the CD.

This book is a MUST for any small to medium-sized food company. I am the Quality Manager of a family-owned bakery and have implemented our entire Quality and HACCP programs using this book. It has all the legal and pertinent information you need and will save your company THOUSANDS of dollars in expensive consultants. This book comes with a CD that provides you with all the templates of all the forms and SOPs you need to create your own quality program. Well worth the cost of the book.

Book Was in very good shape, as promised. Very little notes and comments made by the previous user, as promised.
Book materiel is very well written but the subject matter is still hard. I am using it for a PhD. level class so I did expect the subject to be somehow harder than my previous classes.

Good book

For learning bond graphs this book is perfect especially for the very low price. This is the cheapest book I have purchased in school and I will be keeping it. The bond graph sections of this book are perfect but the equation derivation sections are lacking in terms of clarity and content. I would recommend this book for learning bond graphs and getting a brief understanding of deriving the equations and transfer functions.

Great book to begin to understand the concepts of bond graphs. Also has chapters on deriving state equations. This book is definitely a "readers book". Its more of a book you sit down, read, and think about the material. Not so much a book filled with example problems.
